What is ellaOne and in what cases is it used
ellaOne is an emergency contraceptive
ellaOne is a contraceptive designed to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex
or in the event of a failure of your contraceptive method. For example :
- if you have had sex without contraceptive protection ;
- if your condom, or your partner, if it is torn, has slipped or is removed, or if you forgot to use one ;
- if you have not taken your birth control pill as recommended.
You must take the tablet as soon as possible after a sexual intercourse and within
maximum of 5 days (120 hours).
This is due to the fact that sperm can survive up to 5 days in your body, according to a report
sexual.
This medicine is suitable for any woman of childbearing age, including adolescent girls.
You can take the pill anytime during the menstrual cycle.
ellaOne does not work if you are already pregnant
If you have a late period, it may be that you are pregnant. When your period is late, and / or
if you notice symptoms indicators of pregnancy (heavy breasts, morning sickness), you must
consult a doctor or other health professional before taking the tablet.

How does ellaOne
ellaOne contains the substance ulipristal acetate that acts by modifying the activity of the natural hormone,
progesterone, which is necessary for ovulation to occur. This drug works as well in
delaying ovulation. Emergency contraception is not effective in all cases. Out of 100 women
receiving this drug, about 2 will fall pregnant.
This medicine is a contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. If you are already
pregnant, it will not stop a pregnancy in progress.
Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases
Only condoms can protect you from sexually transmitted infections. This
medicine will not protect you against infection with HIV or any other sexually transmitted disease
transmissible (e.g. chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, and syphilis).

How to take ellaOne
Be sure to always take this medication following exactly the instructions of this manual or the
guidance of your pharmacist, your doctor or a health professional. Check with
your pharmacist or your doctor if in doubt.
How to take the pill ellaOne
- Take one tablet orally as soon as possible and within 5 days (120 hours) after having unprotected sex or after failure of your contraceptive method. Don't wait to take the tablet.
- You can take the tablet at any time of your menstrual cycle.
- You can take the tablet at any time of the day, either before, during or after a meal.
- If you use one of the drugs that can prevent ellaOne to act effectively (see section 2 \" What are the things you should know before taking ellaOne \") or if you have used any of these medicines in the last 4 weeks, the effectiveness of ellaOne may be less for you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using ellaOne. Your doctor may prescribe another type of emergency contraceptive (non-hormonal), namely, an intrauterine device the copper IUD-Cu).
If you vomit after taking ellaOne
If you vomit within 3 hours after taking the tablet, take another tablet in the most
quickly as possible.
If you have a new sexual intercourse after taking ellaOne
If you have unprotected sex after taking the tablet, it will not prevent you from
get pregnant. After taking the tablet and until your next period, you need to use
condoms every time you have sex.
If your next period is late after taking ellaOne
After taking the tablet, it is normal that your following rules are a few days late.
However, if your period is more than 7 days late, if they are abnormally scarce or
unusually heavy, or if you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain
(belly), breast tenderness, vomiting or nausea, it may be that you
are pregnant. You need to do a pregnancy test immediately. If you are pregnant, it is
important that you consult a physician (see section \" Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility \").
If you have used more ellaOne than you should
No serious ill effects have not been reported after the intake of a higher dose of this medicine that
recommended. However, ask your pharmacist, doctor or any other

What are the things you should know before taking ellaOne
Do not take ellaOne
- if you are allergic to ulipristal acetate or any of the other ingredients in this medicine listed in section 6. Warnings and precautions
Please contact your pharmacist, doctor or other health care professional before taking
this medication is used for :
- if your period is late or if you experience symptoms of pregnancy (heavy breasts, morning sickness), as you may already be pregnant (see section \" Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility \") ;
- if you suffer from a severe form of asthma ;
- if you have a disease of the liver.
In all women, emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible after the
non-protected sexual intercourse. There is some evidence that the effectiveness of this medicine
would be lower with an increase in body weight or body mass index (BMI),
but these data were limited and inconclusive. Therefore, ellaOne is always recommended to
all women regardless of their weight or BMI.
It is recommended that you consult a health professional if you're worried about the
occurrence of problems associated with taking an emergency contraceptive.
If you are pregnant despite taking the pill, it is important that you consult your doctor.

Other contraceptives and ellaOne
It may be that this medicine makes it temporarily less effective hormonal contraceptives
regular such as pills and patches. If you are currently taking a hormonal contraceptive,
continue to use it as usual after taking this medicine, but take care to use
then condoms every time you have sex until your next period.
Do not take this medicine at the same time as another emergency contraceptive pill that
contains levonorgestrel. Taking the two together, you could make this medicine less
effective.
Other medicines and ellaOne
Inform your pharmacist, doctor or other health care professional if you are taking or have
recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or
drugs based on medicinal plants.
Some medicines may prevent ellaOne act effectively. If you have used any of the
the drugs mentioned below during the last 4 weeks, ellaOne may be less
appropriate for you. Your doctor may prescribe another type of emergency contraceptive (not
hormone), namely, an intrauterine device the copper IUD-Cu) :
- drugs used to treat epilepsy (primidone, phenobarbital, phenytoin, fosphenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine and barbiturates, for example) ;
- drugs used to treat tuberculosis (rifampin, rifabutin, for example) ;
- treatment used to treat HIV infection (ritonavir, efavirenz, nevirapine) ;
- a drug used to treat fungal infections (griseofulvin) ;
- herbal preparations containing st john's wort (Hypericum perforatum).
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you use ellaOne if you use (or have
recently used) any of the drugs mentioned above.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
Pregnancy
Before taking this medication, if you have a late period, inform your pharmacist,
your doctor or other health professional, or do a pregnancy test to ensure you
that you are not already pregnant (see \"Warnings and precautions \").
This medicine is a contraceptive used to prevent early pregnancy. If you are already
pregnant, it will not halt the pregnancy.
If you are pregnant despite taking this drug, nothing suggests that ellaOne can affect
your pregnancy. However, it is important to contact your doctor. As with any pregnancy,
your doctor may want to ensure that it is not ectopic. This is particularly
important if you suffer from severe abdominal pain (tummy) or if you have
bleeding or if you have ever had an ectopic pregnancy, a surgery or tubal a
genital infection long-term (chronic).
If you are pregnant despite taking ellaOne, it is recommended that you ask your doctor

Breastfeeding
If you take this medication while you are breast-feeding a baby, do not breast-feed for a week
after taking this medicine. During this period, it is recommended to use a breastpump in order to
to maintain milk production but discard your milk. The effect of breastfeeding your baby during
of the week after taking this drug is not known.
Fertility
This medicine will not affect your fertility. If you have unprotected sex after
having taken the tablet, this will not prevent you from getting pregnant. Therefore, it is important that
you use condoms until your next period.
If you want to start or to continue to employ a regular method of contraception after
have used this medication, you can but you also need to use condoms
until your next period.
Driving and using machines
After taking the drug, some women experience dizziness, drowsiness, vision
fuzzy and/or attention disorders (see section 4 \"What are the side effects
possible ?\") : do not drive vehicles or use machines if you experience these
symptoms.
ellaOne contains lactose
If your doctor or other health professional has notified you that you have an intolerance to
some sugars, inform your pharmacist before taking this medicine.
