Xylocaine 10% is a local anesthetic (anaesthetic of the amide group).


Xylocaine 10% is indicated for use in adults and children aged 2 years and over:


- in all cases requiring anesthesia of mucous membranes, rapid and effective, especially in anesthesiology (e.g. for intubation),


- in oto-rhino-laryngology,


- in obstetrics,


- oral surgery and


- in trauma.

What is Xylocaine 10%


- The active substance is lidocaine. Xylocaine 10% contains 5 g lidocaine in 50 ml of solution.


- The other ingredients are ethanol 96 %, polyethylene glycol 400, essence of banana, menthol, saccharin and purified water.

Xylocaine 10% causes a anaesthesia rapid and profound mucous membranes, which lasts approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The anesthesia begins after 1 to 3 minutes, depending on the application area. As for any other local anaesthetic, the safety and effectiveness depend on the accuracy of the dose, administration technique, appropriate precautions and the immediate availability of emergency measures.


Xylocaine 10% should not be used on the balloons of endotracheal tubes made of plastic, which ensure sealing of the trachea.
